Financial Assistance/ Scholarship

IVS believes in providing equal opportunity to students who face economic challenges in pursuing their studies. It promotes the philosophy of equal opportunity and education for all in an inclusive learning environment.

Financial help is offered in the form of Financial Assistance (interest-free loans) and Scholarships to new students as well as existing students who are finding it difficult to pay their fees due to changed circumstances.

Both Financial Assistance (interest-free loan) and Scholarships are provided to students through the School’s Financial Assistance and Scholarship Fund. IVS relies on donations from its well-wishers to meet these needs each year.

(1)     Financial Assistance in the form of interest-free loans

This scheme is for those who have a sufficient income stream but there may be a temporary difficulty or momentary hardship in the family. The interest-free loan is provided to cover up to 75% of the tuition fee.

The repayment of the loaned amount starts after one year of the date of graduation of the student and the whole amount has to be paid within 5 years.

(2)    Scholarships

A Scholarship is awarded to those individuals whose family income is insufficient or where it is felt that repayment after one year of graduation of the student is not possible. Scholarship of up to 75% tuition fee is usually awarded but, in certain cases, 100% scholarship can also be approved. Students are also given scholarships through a number of specific scholarship funds created by well-wishers of IVS both in individual and institutional capacities.

Application Process

§  The application process begins each year in October after students are given admission offer on merit. A request for financial assistance has no bearing on admission to the School. As a policy, names of donors to the fund as well as the recipients of financial assistance are kept confidential.

§  Students are eligible to apply for FA/scholarship based on their financial need through a prescribed online form. The financial requirement of each student is carefully evaluated through the following established procedure and is reviewed annually:

o   The information provided by the applicants is translated into a financial score of 1 to 10 (10 being most deserving and 1 being least deserving).

o   Applicants are then interviewed by the Financial Assistance Award Panel comprising of the Chair of the Finance and Planning Committee, member(s) of the Executive Committee and member(s) of IVS alumni.   The award panel is provided with the financial summary of each applicant. Students are also allowed to bring in their parents to explain any complex financial matters.

o   The Award Panel, based on the established need of students, awards appropriate Financial Assistance and/or Scholarships.

o   The continuity of both the financial assistance (interest-free loan) and scholarship will depend upon the student’s academic performance in the preceding semester. Semester GPA of 2.30 in the Foundation Year (1st and 2nd semesters) and 2.50 for the rest of semesters is required to continue receiving approved Financial Assistance / Scholarship
