Alumnus Marvi Mazhar (AR-2009) has been invited to speak at Situational Urbanism – “What does ‘heritage’ mean in/for Pakistan? The South Asian Career of a Global Concept” – Heritage Across Borders Conference of the Association of Critical Heritage Studies Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.
The Session will be with – Hareem Mirza (History, Royal Holloway University of London) The Politics of Preserving Colonial Heritage Buildings in Karachi and Chris Moffat (History, Queen Mary University of London)Archaeological Space, Participatory Architecture and the Future of the Past in Pakistan.

Architect Fawad Suhail Abbasi (AR 2002) was invited as a Speaker by JIA, Japanese Institute of Architects at ACA-18 Asian Congress of Architects on Design Talk. The theme was my “Favourite City” and was on the eve of 11 September 2018 at the National Art Center Tokyo, a beautiful Building by the famous Japanese Architect Kisho Kurikawa while ACA-18 was scheduled from 10-14 September 2018.
ACA18 Tokyo was hosted by JIA from 10th-14th September. The conference was attended by 75 delegates from Pakistan under the banner of IAP (Institute of Architects Pakistan), out of these 2 were IVS founders (Akeel Bilgrami and Noorjehan Bilgrami) and 13 alumni Moyena Ahmed Niazi, Maria Aslam, Maria Ansari, Amna Majid, Fawad Suhail Abbasi, Ramiz Baig, Naveed Salam, Sana Aslam, Bisma Askari, Usman Mughni, Affan Adil Khan, Abdullah Mansoor Zuberi and Samar Zehra.
During the conference the founders and alumni played an active part in representing Pakistan to the fullest in the following manner;
– Ramiz Baig (AR 2002) as the Honorary Secretary of ARCASIA 2017-18.
– Fawad Suhail Abbasi (AR 2002) Vice President IAP, who represented Zone A during the Design Talk session on ‘My Favourite City’ and presented on the same platform as architect Toyo Ito.
– Akeel Bilgrami, one of the nine founders of IVS represented Pakistan as a committee member during the 39th meeting of the ARCASIA Committee for Architectural Education (ACAE) with Maria Ansari (AR 1999) one of the founders of the IVS Alumni Association as an observer on the same Committee.
– Bisma Askari (AR 2007) President, Board of Governors, IVS Alumni Association represented Pakistan as a committee member during the 3rd ACYA (ARCASIA Committee for Young Architects) Meeting with Samar Zehra (AR 2015) as an observer on the same committee.
Aicon Gallery presented ‘Sweeping Back the Sea’, a group exhibition curated by alumna Adeela Suleman (FA 1995).
Alumni participating in the exhibition included; Zainab Abdulhussain (FA 2017), Maryam Arslan (FA 2015), Affan Baghpati (FA 2015), Emaan Mahmud (FA 2008), Hira Khan (FA 2015), Seher Naveed (FA 2007), Seema Nusrat (FA 2002), Razin Rubin (FA 2016), Veera Rustomji (FA 2015).
Chalay Thay Saath a much acclaimed feature film, directed and produced by our very own Alumni duo Umer Adil (CD 2002) and Beenish Umer aka Beenish Waiz (FA 2002), released in cinemas nation wide in April 2017. It was released on Netflix worldwide last month and has now made it to China after limited release in US and screenings in Romania and Hongkong.
Chalay Thay Saath is proudly represented Pakistan in the SCO film festival in Qingdao, China from 13th-17th of June 2018, and was been selected for the spotlight “In Focus” program.
The team was invited to China as part of the Pakistan delegation and proudly represented the country along with some other acclaimed film industry giants and Pakistan ministry officials on all platforms.
The film is a passion project and has been the result of hard work and dedication of a team of brilliant young people of whom some belong to the IVS family. Nadir Shahzad (CD 2011), AD, music supervisor and contributed ‘Bolo’ a very soulful track to the OST. Sara Jamil (CD 1999), campaign design, Aisha Talha Farooqui (CD 2015), AD and continuity supervisor, Ali Khurshid, campaign photographer and last but not the least, Syed Haseeb Amjad, BTS photography and B roll.
