Students are expected to conform to all the rules and those who fail to do so are subject to a range of disciplinary actions or in extreme cases, to expulsion.

GRADUATION CHECK

At the end of the course, students should check with their Programme Incharge and ensure that all course requirements have been met. All academic requirements must be met prior to participation in the Convocation ceremony. Furthermore, students must meet all financial obligations, (semester fees, library fines/ dues or any other pending charges) in order to participate in the Convocation ceremony, and to receive their Diploma as per the guidelines provided in the Convocation Manual.

TRANSCRIPTS

A student’s academic history is contained in a transcript, which is maintained by the Academic Office of the Registrar. Official transcripts are issued only upon the written request of the student, upon their graduation or official withdrawal from School, and may be sent directly, to another educational institution or a potential employer.

Unofficial transcripts do not carry the Seal of the Registrar. The Grade Sheet issued after each semester is provisional and considered as such until the final transcript is issued. A transcript is considered correct and final one calendar year after it is issued. If a student identifies an error, the office of the Registrar must be notified in writing within one calendar year.

WITHHOLDING OF DIPLOMA AND TRANSCRIPTS

No student’s transcript, faculty recommendation, or other record at Indus Valley School will be released to the student, or to any other person, or institution, until all the student’s outstanding obligations to the School have been fulfilled. These obligations include library fines, tuition and other fees and charges. Transcripts may also be withheld for non-financial reasons such as incomplete admission status etc.

RIGHTS RESERVED

The School reserves the right to make changes, alter, substitute, eliminate or add to the programmes, courses, rules and guidelines, requirements for diploma, fees or any other information or statement contained in this prospectus at any time without notice.

STUDENT COUNSELLING

The availability of personal and career counselling services in any educational set-up is an important requirement and the need of our time. Hence, IVS provides personal and career counselling services to its students. It aims to provide inroads to help all the agencies involved in any educational activity to produce psychologically healthy people, who are able to reflect on their potential, set new aspirations, introspect and strive towards perfection. The goals are not merely change and self-development and enhancement of intellectual skills, but also targets practical skills and the personal development of a student.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS

IVS believes in providing equal opportunity to economically challenged students for pursuing their studies at the School. The School offers financial assistance towards tuition fees on the basis of an interest free loan (Qarz-e-Hasna), to students from a revolving fund created by philanthropists and well-wishers of the School.

Applications for financial assistance must be filed by the specified date, by those candidates who consider themselves eligible for such aid. The financial requirement of each student is carefully evaluated, through an established procedure and is reviewed at the end of each semester. The continuity of the financial assistance, will depend upon the student’s academic performance in the preceding semester.

A request for financial assistance has no bearing on admission to the School, since admission is strictly on merit. As a policy, names of donors to the fund, as well as the recipients of financial assistance are kept confidential.

Those who receive Qarz-e-Hasna must make a firm commitment to repay the amount. This commitment is obtained from the student when the assistance is approved and also when the student graduates from the School. As soon as they become earning members of society they must return the amount.

STUDENT COUNCIL

The School has a Student Council that represents the entire student body. The Council consists of an approximate of 16 students who are elected through formal election each year in which the entire student body participates. The Council is responsible for all co-curricular activities and events of the School. A faculty based Advisory Board acts as a liason body with the Student Council.

IVS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

This Association issues a newsletter periodically and members actively involve themselves in organising social events and fundraising for the School. The Association also maintains a website and keeps its members updated with the School’s activities. It also maintains a close liaison with the School through academic and social activities with the students. The Alumni office is located on Campus and is accessible by all.

PLAGIARISM & CHEATING:

Plagiarism is the act of presenting another’s ideas or words as one’s own. Cheating include, the intentional falsification or fabrication of any academic activity, unauthorized copying of another’s work, or aiding and abetting any such acts. These acts are forbidden for any graded work assignment and such acts will result in a zero grade for that body of work. Should a student fail a course due to such a zero grade, a remedial or a re-sit will not be permitted.

GRIEVANCES:

Any student, who has any form of grievance with a faculty member or the programme incharge, takes that grievance to the person involved. Accordingly, students who have a grievance about major deviations, additions or changes to a course’s syllabus are encouraged to first take up the issue with the faculty member. Significant reasons may have developed – such as a major discovery that necessitates changes in the course content or contextual developments that change the way the course may be delivered or evaluated – to warrant such changes in the curriculum.

If a faculty member is contacted and a resolution does not result, the grievance may then be taken to the head of the department. The purpose of these meetings is primarily informational, although if there is evidence that the course did not generally match with the basic description provided in the prospectus, remedies may be offered to the student, including, but not limited to, re-offering the course to the student, providing an opportunity for mentored independent study, or extending the option of course withdrawal.

Grievances should be expressed and dealt with at the earliest point in time. Ordinarily students should begin the grievance process no later than two weeks after the initial unresolved experience.

REENROLLMENT:
Students, who drop out of the course before completing the Diploma, will be allowed to rejoin within the following two years of their dropping out. After the lapse of two years they will not be reinducted.

The Admission Forms with the PGD Prospectus will be available from the IVS Campus on payment of Rs. 1000/- cash or via credit/debit card from May 02, 2011. Last date for submission of forms is May 23, 2011.

The IVS was granted an independent charter by the Government of Sindh in June 1994, thereby empowering
it to award its own degrees. It was the fourth private institution of higher learning in Pakistan to be given degree awarding status.
Admission to the School is strictly based on merit as determined by an aptitude test, an interview process and a weightage criteria.
