Students in their training are equipped with the basic architectural and design tools necessary for undertaking space design. Hence students of Interior Design upon completion of the foundation year share studio and theory sessions with the Architecture students in the third and fourth semesters. In the semesters that follow, the Department of Interior Design encourages and demands inter-departmental interaction through various studio exercises. The emphasis ranges from conceptualization to finished projects of diverse nature; these include furniture and product design, retail and hospitality design and residential and corporate interiors. Study trips, seminars, site visits and informal class discussions between the critic and students also complement the learning process. The final year of Interior Design culminates in a synthesis of research dissertation, thesis minor and a final design thesis, synergizing thereby the four-year programme into a comprehensive whole. Students are expected to critically assess and analyze their own work and that of their peers in order to establish independent conceptualization skills and design strategies critical to a trained Interior Designer. A continuously growing permanent and visiting faculty comprising practicing professionals and field specialists supports the programme at IVS. |
