| The student, in addition to a thorough grounding in design, is also encouraged to undertake a study in cultural and historical context as well as social and ethical factors that influence design decisions. The department aims to create an atmosphere in which students challenge and redefine their individual subject aims. The course aims to develop mature, creative and analytical work through exploration of ideas and theory classes that provide a social context for professional practice. The potential of Communication Design covers areas ranging from Social Communication to Corporate Communication. During the three years in the department, the students take on a variety of design projects that cover multi-dimensional aspects of the field. The courses covered include Graphic Design, Typography, Advertising Design, Computer Graphics, Photography, Illustration, Web Design, Film and Video, Corporate Identity and Information Systems like signage. The curriculum maintains a fine balance between theory and practice. Working knowledge in the area of moving image production through a comprehension of animation and film and video are an important part of the curriculum. The department of Communication Design incorporates Graphic Design and Advertising Design as a consolidated major. The minors offered are Photography, Illustration, Printmaking and Film and Video. The students may choose any one of the four courses as their minors. |
