Graphic Design
Graphic Design provides students with the basics of design and typography to develop effective social and corporate communication solutions, packaging, interactive multimedia and print publications.

Students working closely with the faculty and their peers generate design solutions.

This course acquaints the student with terminology, methods and systems used to solve graphic design problems, from initial concept to layout. The process is applied in a variety of design projects.

Typography
English and Urdu typography

The course includes the learning of typography in both English and Urdu.

The course studies hand lettering of classic, historically relevant typographic forms that are the foundation of contemporary typographic aesthetics. The craft of typography is introduced, including type specifications, copy fitting and kerning.

The typography course consists of a sequence of courses like fundamental typography, its theory, practice, and technology. Exercises include the study of the letterform, type design and composition. Essential aspects like layout and systems, typographic expression and communication are important. Students learn the techniques of amalgamating type with image keeping in mind proportions and grids.

Typographic relationships with other graphic elements are investigated through brochures, posters and other 2D and 3D projects.

At a later stage editorial Design is an integral part of this course.
Basic calligraphy is also introduced to the students.

Advertising Design
Courses in strategy and concept development, compositions, copywriting, media and storyboard prepare students in advertising art direction. Emphasis is placed on process, the development of creative and challenging solutions. Student produce complete advertising campaign integrating such type, photography, illustration and graphics, presentations discussed and critiqued by practicing professionals as well.

Students acquire a basic knowledge of design and its role through a disciplined strategic approach. Students experiment with a variety of media and build on strategic design principles to advertising that not only ‘sells', but also is also ethically and morally correct. Projects allow students to develop their skills in addition to their creativity.

Students will explore the basic elements of creative writing, as they apply to the production of quality copy for print advertising. All ad assignments are based on creative strategies developed by students. The study of the ad as a means of communicating a compelling advertising concept, the purposes, possibilities and practices for creating ads are explored. Concepts are based on strategies developed for each product assignment.
Weekly projects are evaluated in each class session.

Computer Graphics
This course is designed to provide the student with a fundamental understanding of a range of computer graphics software. The main emphasis of the course focuses on fundamentals of skills development.

Through a variety of assignments, students learn how to use various tools to support the design process.

The assignments are geared towards page grids, layout specifications, colour connections and type setting using various applicable soft wares.

This course emphasizes appropriate proficiency in the applications and understanding the role of digital tools in the realm of design. Students are made familiar with the basics of designing and managing a web site and it several elements.

Drawing
This course is specifically designed to improve drawing and heighten sensitivity to observation. It reviews principles learnt at foundation level and introduces the students to a wide array issues as they relate to various applications.

The course is designed to encourage through process and working, assignments and projects that fuel the imagination. As observational approach is encouraged, leading to the generation and more personal ideas. Tone, composition, materials, medium and methods are covered to help the student harness their expressive possibilities. The course allows the students to make visual connections and translate their ideas into real working possibilities.

Illustration
In this course the students learn the skills necessary to develop conceptual aptitudes and apply their creativity to projects finished illustrations. The knowledge of perspective, light, colour, spatial dynamics and a variety of mediums and techniques is applied to communicate to specified audience.

Working closely with professional illustrators on the faculty, helps to develop projects that cover a wide range of illustrative applications, including advertising and publication design. The student's own creativity, self-expression and visual communication skills are stressed. Emphasis is placed on clarity of concepts, professional responsibilities and on developmental procedures necessary to work in the field. Control of medium and tools involved is stressed, enabling students to utilize their image making techniques.

Animation is introduced at a later stage, which aims to develop basic 2D skills and introduce the use of flash for character animation and motion graphics.
In the 5 th semester's students may chose Illustration a their minor.

Photography
This course provides a communication design student with the general principles of photography relevant to the field and applicable to designers. The basic concepts and terminology, traditional and digital photography, composition, colour methods and equipment are covered. Students learn to place and optimize captured for print projects.
In the 5 th semester students may choose photography as their minor.

Film & Video
The Film & Video course starts off with a theoretical study cinematic concerns and techniques. The relationships between narrative, documentary, experimental filmmaking and TV ads are discussed. This theory class then expands into hands-on allowing the students to film and edit their own projects.
Students are encouraged to produce films with sensitivity to society, and with relevance to their surroundings.
In the 5 th semester students may choose Film and Video as their minor.

Printmaking
The course looks at various methods of printmaking and includes lino, collograph, etching, silkscreen and relief prints. The course equips the student with a good basic knowledge of all print mediums, and a portfolio. Students are encouraged to experiment and use a variety of paper and ink to create works of contemporary communication. They immerse themselves in a series of projects designed to develop skills in a wide range of applications and techniques.
In the 5 th semester students may choose printmaking as their minor.

Electronic Communication
This course introduces the student to designing television ads, music videos and documentary and film making through a series of lectures and hands on practical experience, the students develop an understanding and appreciation for the field concentrating on production, production and post-production aspects. This class looks at Television Advertising in Pakistan-The past, present and the future.

Production Art
A graphic designer needs a thorough knowledge of the printing technologies used today. The study of various printing and pre-press production are introduced. Field trips practical know-how is an integral part of this course.

This course provides a technical background to the Graphic Designer. The course covers material related to the actual production of design materials, usually learned by experience. Press-checks, colour specifications and proofing, pre-pres art, file preparation, paper selections and characteristics are all addressed with class field trips to printing processes are an important aspect of this course.

History of Graphic Design
The course provides as in-depth survey of the historical, cultural, social and political movements, which have influenced the evolution of Graphic Design.
