The five-year programme, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Architecture, incorporates a broad-based curriculum encompassing the arts and the sciences. The objective is to encourage the student to develop his/her awareness of the global and local issues that impact upon the built environment.
The major focus of the programme is on architectural design. The design studio becomes the venue for the integration of the theoretical and technical knowledge of the diverse supporting disciplines, to solve problems of architectural design with the guidance of the design critic. The design solutions are required to be culturally, environmentally and technologically appropriate; simultaneously, however, the students are expected to address universal and timeless architectural concerns of a metaphysical nature.
Education in the studio and classroom is supplemented by local and foreign field trips, as well as by seminars and lectures by visiting designers and professionals.
The permanent faculty is effectively supported by a sizable visiting faculty, comprising practicing professionals, who enhance the academic experience of the student by the wealth of their professional expertise.
