Welcome to the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture.

IVS is based in Pakistan's bustling port-city of Karachi of over 10 million people, which forms the financial and business hub for Pakistan. The city features as a melting pot for migrants from across the country, which are reflected in the diverse cultural and culinary experiences to be found here.

Karachi History
Karachi evolved from a fishing village, which under British patronage became the capital for the southern province of Sindh. After Independence, it served as the capital of Pakistan till the new capital of Islamabad was complete. Today it serves as a commercial and business hub, with a natural harbor that handles shipping of goods for the entire country.

Things to Do
Reflecting its trading history, the city is home to numerous bazaars that can be a joy to explore. In particular, the wholesale markets around the old section of town - Kharadar/Meethadar area - make for interesting visits.

Excursions from the the city can be undertaken to various sites. Archeological sites of Moenjodharo - a 5000 year old city on the banks of the River Indus - the Makli necropolis outside Thatta and the Chawkandi tombs are all a short distance from the city. Other nearby sights include Thatta's Shah Jehan mosque and the water fowl reserve at Haleji lake.
